Sukiya Robbery! ／ すき家強盗！

I often go to Sukiya, which is a Gyu-don restaurant chain especially when I'm very busy. In these two or three month, about ten robbery cases to Sukiya have been reported, if I remember correctly. Sukiya tends to be targeted by robberies because Sukiya is open 24 hours and some of them are located in suburbs. If a robbery breaks into Sukiya when I'm in it, how can I behave?

Moammar Gadhafi! ／モマーガダフィ！

The longtime dictator, Moammar Gadhafi, was killed by his opponents last weekend in Libya. Why was he killed? It's because he was a dictator? If so, why isn't Kim Jong-il targeted by the international armed intervention? It's because he doesn't kill residents in his country directly although some of them are suffering from terrible malnutrition without any care by the country. Everyone know that people in the ruling class are living wealthily in North Korea. If revolutionaries rise in revolt, will the international organization cooperate with them to kill the dictator? I have to learn this kind of international affairs to argue about this more deeply. Fundamentally, I think it's fault to rely on military power without much thought.

Taxi Downfall! ／ タクシー転落！

A taxi fell down 7.5 meters high to a railway, today's news reported. The taxi made contact with the front of a train, and the driver and the passenger of the taxi were terribly injured. However, fortunately, no passengers in the train were injured although there were 1,500 people in it. The police is investigating the cause of the accident, now. I think the driver and the passenger of the taxi were also lucky, because they didn't die despite the fact that they fell down from quite a high place.

An earthquake in Turkey... ／ トルコで地震。。。

There was an big Earthquake in Turkey, today. The epicenter is 15 km away from Van. I've never been there, but I know the city name. I've traveled in Turkey once before. I gathered some information about Turkey, including Van, before the trip, and one of my favorite novelists, Haruki Murakami, refers to Van in his essay where there is a special breed of cat. I read the cat has two different colored eyes on either side. So the city name was strongly impressed. Anyway, I heard many people were injured and many were still trapped under the ravages of collapsed building due to the earthquake. I hope the lives will be saved as many as possible.

今日、トルコで大きな地震がありました。震源地はヴァンから15kmのところです。僕はヴァンには行ったことがないけど、その街の名前は知っています。僕は以前一度トルコ旅行に行きました。旅行の前にトルコについての情報をいくらか集めました。それに、僕の好きな小説家のうちの一人、村上春樹、がエッセイの中で特別な品種のネコがいる場所として触れていました。そのネコは左右で異なる色の眼を持っていることを読んで知りました。そのため、その街の名前は強く心に残っていました。とにかくも、その地震で、多くの人々が怪我を負って、多くの人々がいまだに倒壊したビルのがれきの下に捕らわれていると、僕は聞きました。できるだけ多くの命が救われることを願います。

Selling Discontinuation of Garapagos! / ガラパゴス販売中止！

Sharp Corporation has decided to stop selling its product, Galapagos, which was launched last year. It's a kind of portable tablet computer, like an iPad created by Apple Corporation. It seems that the sales figure has not been so good. This is because Apple's iPad is more preferable among consumers to Sharp's Garapagos. Actually, I like Apple's computer same as other many people, but I want Japanese companies like Sharp to become more vigorous!

Natural gas power plant in Tokyo Bay? ／ 東京湾に天然ガス発電所？

It is said that the cases, which a local government entries into the electric utility industry by making good use of natural energy, is increasing under the influence of the accident of the nuclear power plants.
Today, Tokyo metropolitan government announced that it determined the five places proposed for a natural gas power plant, which it considers to establish in Tokyo Bay.
I heard that the electric bill is about third as high as current rate because of using power transmission lines of Tokyo Electric Power Corporation when we use the electricity generated by newly started organization.
I want Japanese government to take an action, which lowers barrier which is preventing newly started organization from entering into the electric utility industry, soon.

今日、東京都が東京湾への建設を検討している天然ガス発電所について、候補地を５カ所発表しました。
発電事業に新規参入する場合、東京電力の送電線を使うため、電力料金が現在よりも３割程度も高くなるそうです。
国には、電力事業への新規参入の障壁を下げる対策を早く講じて欲しいです。

A Sweaty Shirt! / 汗臭いシャツ！

In Japan, it's the rainy season, now. So, it's terribly humid. Sometimes I have to hang out my washing in my room because I can't dry it outside owing to bad weather. Fortunately, a drying function is equipped in a bathroom of my flat. So, I can dry my clothes even if a rainstorm hit the outside. By the way, as you may know, in Japan, there is a serious problem of electricity shortage. So we're asked to save electricity by the government. As for large companies, they're demanded to save it over 15 percent. If not so, they're imposed a fine and the company's name is made public. That's why we are very much careful how much electricity we're using. Of course, I also consider how to save it more efficiently. Based on this idea, a few days ago, I set up a timer of drying function shorter than usual. When I put on a shirt, which was dried by the way, in the morning, I didn't notice anything strange. However, from around noon, the shirt started to give off a terrible smell. The shirt hadn't completely been dried because I shortened the drying time! Bad bacteria was growing! That's why I was so sorry to wear such a terribly smelling shirt when I was working in my office in all the afternoon.

日本は、今梅雨です。そのため、ひどく蒸し暑いです。ときどき、僕は洗濯物を室内に干さなければなりません。天気が悪くて外に干せないからです。幸いにも、僕のアパートのバスルームには乾燥機能が付いています。そのため、たとえ外が暴風雨でも洗濯物を乾かすことができます。ところで、知ってるかもしれませんが、日本は今深刻な電力不足の問題を抱えています。そのため、私たちは政府から電力を節約するようお願いされています。大企業について言えば、１５％以上の削減が求められています。もしそうしないと、罰金が科せられ、会社名が公表されます。そういうわけで、私たちはどれだけの電力を使っているのか、とても気にしています。もちろん、僕もどうやったらもっと効率よく電気を節約できるか、よく考えています。この考えをもとに、数日前、僕はいつもより短く乾燥機能のタイマーをセットしました。そうやって乾かしたシャツを朝着たとき、僕は何も変わったことに気付きませんでした。でも、正午ごろから、そのシャツが嫌なにおいを発し始めました。乾燥時間を短くしたから、シャツが完璧に乾いていなかったのです！悪い細菌が繁殖していました！そんなわけで、僕はオフィスで働いている午後中ずっと、そんなにもひどく臭うシャツを着ていることを申し訳なく思っていました。
